Certain large wounds cannot be closed normally with stitches. Partial thickness of your skin can be removed, usually from your thigh, and grafted to cover large open wounds or burns. This will require a trip to operating room, but can usually be done as an outpatient, depending on the size and cause of the wound. The success rate is quite high and will eliminate the need for wound care which can last for several weeks.
