Our best weapon against breast cancer is early detection. Breast cancer can be cured if diagnosed early enough. Surgical Arts is dedicated in the fight against breast cancer. We routinely offer Free Breast Screening exams during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) of each year.
We also perform routine exams on all of our breast patients.
The current recommendations of the American Cancer Society for breast screening are as follows:
1. Baseline mammogram at age 40, then every 1-2 years until
age 50, then yearly after age 50.
2. Monthly self breast exams.
3. Yearly breast exams by your physician.
In most situations, your primary care physician will perform this breast screening. If a significant abnormality is identified, you should then be referred to a surgeon who specializes in treatment of breast disease.
