Joan W. Iacobelli, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Specializing in Surgical Health Care for children and adults, Dr. Iacobelli began her surgical career at Surgical Arts, P.C. in July 1991.
A native of North Haven, Connecticut, Dr. Iacobelli received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut where she graduated with honors. She completed the Yale University Physician Associate program and practiced as a physician assistant for two years. Subsequently, she decided to enter medical school at the University of Tennessee where she completed four years of medical school and five years of surgical residency training.
During her medical training, was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and received the “outstanding student in surgery” award.
Dr. Iacobelli is certified by the American Board of Surgery and was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support as well as Advanced Trauma Life Support.
She is an active member of the Southern Medical Association, the Alabama State Medical Association, the Cullman County Medical Society, the Association of Women Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and is a Fellow of the Southeastern Surgical Congress.
Dr. Iacobelli has served in the following positions: Chief of Surgery at Woodland Medical Center and as Chairman of the Cancer Committee at Cullman Regional Medical Center, Member of the Surgical Case Review Committee and Chairman of the Health Information Committee at Woodland Medical Center and Member of the Education Committee at Cullman Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Iacobelli’s professional interests include treatment of breast disease, general surgery laparoscopic procedures and thoracic and vascular surgery.
Dr. Iacobelli and her husband, Tony, have two children, Katrina and Nicholas. In addition to spending time with her family, Dr. Iacobelli enjoys ballroom dancing, running, swimming and competing in triathlons.
