Dr. Gregory S. Winham

  • Gregory S. Windham, M.D.
  • Dr. Windham, who has practiced medicine in Cullman since 1982 and is the founder of Surgical Arts, P.C., was born in England, grew up in Memphis, Tenn., and graduated from high school in Russellville, Ala. His undergraduate studies were completed with "high honors" at Auburn University where he was also a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta pre medical honorary society.

    Dr. Windham earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with an interest in surgery. His surgical training was obtained at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham where he completed his residency and served as Chief Surgical Resident.While at Carraway Methodist Center, Dr. Windham was instrumental in the research and development of the "Life Saver" helicopter transport system and trauma services.

    Dr. Windham has received the America Medical Association's Physician Recognition Award on five separate occasions and is eligible for the American Board of Surgery. He is an active member of the Alabama State Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, and the Cullman County Medical Society. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and is certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Dr. Windham performed the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy (laser assisted endoscopic removal of the gallbladder) as well as the first laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplications and ERCP's in Cullman. He has significant experience in a variety of complex laparoscopic procedures including laparoscopic hernia repairs, appendectomies, thoracoscopies, and hemorrhoidectomies. He has special interest in free community clinics for the screening and early detection of cancer, as well as reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery.

    Dr. Windham and his wife, Malinda, have three children. He and his family enjoy spending time together snow skiing, playing golf, hunting, and traveling.
